Blog Chain (3)

Colbymarshall really made it easy for me in this blogchain blogging about Twilight, as I’ve just finished reading the book.
I love Vampire Novels.
I’ve read tons of Christine Feehan books about Vampires falling in love with their true mate and overcoming all obstacles and the manly machos and the strength and the darkness and the brooding that already Angel displayed so well on screen.
So, it was a logic thing for me to do, when I finally picked up Twilight a week ago.
Now, let’s first talk about the writing, shall we?
Someone explain me how this got published. How this got looked at by an editor and how this got such a bloody advance and a three book deal?
How?
Her writing is full of telling. Showing’s not her favourite thing to do.
And then there’s adverbs. And adverbs and adverbs and then there’s some more adverbs.
And still I loved it.
The story was awesome.
Bella a girl written in a way that every woman can relate (younger ones of course).
And Edward so beautiful and dark and brooding.
I’ve got me the rest of the books. Probably her writing will have improved and I will hopefully have a blost with those too.

Now putting this aside, I also want to answer the question of colbymarshall, what book, tv or movie success suprised me.

Well, Married with Children. What the hell is funny about THAT?

  1. Well, this is really the same thing with the Harry Potter books- I love them–ADORE them–but for the life of me I can’t figure out why all the adverbs, lol!

Married With Children. I really can’t explain that one any more than I can explain Paris Hilton’s celebrity. There are a lot of stupid, lowest-common-denominator sitcoms out there. Escapism, perhaps? I mean, how is it any worse (or misogynistic) than The Honeymooners? Or I Love Lucy? Or The Jeffersons? (Am I showing my age here?)

    “And still I loved it.”

That’s why. All those questions you asked about it, that answers why it’s a big thing.

This is something I really dont have any idea. What is the big deal about Twilight?

  5. Polenth says:

I’m not likely to read Twilight unless I get a free copy. I’ve never been one for romance stories. I’m all for romantic subplots, but not for romantic main plots.

Married with Children makes more sense if you grew up as white trash (or with white trash).

… yeah, I got the humor. Shush.

Twilight I haven’t read yet. I picked it up like oh hey nice cover this looks interesting. Then I started hearing all the bad stuff about it and I’ve been torn on whether or not to read it. For the record though, I do like vampires, and as a reader I forgive writing transgressions pretty easily so long as the story is entertaining.

Married… With Children still gets shown every so often in the UK. I even had the comics that Now Comics published in the nineties. Not that it had anthing, at all, whatsoever to do with the fact that Christina Applegate was on the show…

Twilight gave me a migraine after the first chapter. Luckily I had borrowed the book from a friend, so I didn’t end up out of pocket, but damn- How many times an she describe something? It’s a bit more than my poor brain can cope with.

@BigWords88: Married with Children gave me a migraine after two seconds of viewing. Every time.

And Twilight, I’ve read through them, it’s a bit much of description, it’s a bit broody and dark and therefore hilarious, but I liked the story.
